FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will the Campus Use Any Community Water

No! The campus will use mine pool water, a stranded asset which is not being used by the community and not part of the water table. In fact, it is currently a liability to the state and various companies. Adams Fork will invest in these mine pools. They will be used as a “heat sink” part of a geothermal cooling circuit. It is arguably the most sustainable and clean design in the country. Thirty three percent (33% )of power (and emissions) for data centers across the world is from cooling — we aim to eliminate that.

  • Will the Campus Cause Our Electricity Prices to Go Higher

No! Our design is behind the meter, meaning we will bring our own generation equipment and take zero local or grid electricity. In fact, we may send excess electricity back to the grid helping lower electricity prices.

  • What About the Emissions From the Power Plant?

Adams Fork Energy uses efficient, clean natural gas-fired base power equipment . That is why we were able to get our air permits -- because our design produces so little pollutants given the amount of power it can produce. Our equipment is most often seen in the shipping industry which has emissions standards stricter than US based power plants.

  • Will the Community Benefit?

Yes! Our goal is to partner with the community. Any customer we bring in needs to believe in that mission. We have been involved in Mingo County for 15+ years trying to develop projects that the community will be proud of. Our proposed project will bring sustainable long- term jobs which will require internships and scholarships to ensure a skilled, productive workforce. We want to support the community by investing in local schools, community improvement projects animal rescue shelters, and critical infrastructure. We are committed to being a good neighbor that the community welcomes.

THE CHALLENGE

Demand Outstrips Supply

Demand is not keeping up with supply. New consumer friendly solutions need to be had to conquer the challenge.

MCKINSEY & COMPANY

"Global demand for data centers is set to more than triple by 2030."

In the US alone, demand could grow 20-25% every year. Data centers' share of total US power is projected to rise from 3.7% in 2023 to 11.7% by 2030.

DELOITTE

"AI data centers could need 30 times more power by 2035."

Antiquated grid, lack of investment and delays for equipment and grid connections creating problems. Prices can go much higher.

RELIABLE POWER

Reliable, Uninterrupted, Dispatchable Power–Quickly

  • 2.4 GW of natural gas generation for 24/7/365 power at each campus.
  • Modular Six Sigma+ reliability.
  • Dual-fueled "on the fly" equipment (natural gas & diesel) for power reliability.
  • Fast-track construction – first power within 18-24 months – equipment on order.

SUSTAINABLE & FUTURE PROOF

Sustainable & Future Proof with Proprietary Water

  • Access to 1.5 trillion-gallon proprietary fresh-water reserve for geothermal cooling.
  • Supports a low PUE of close to 1.0 by limiting mechanical cooling.
  • One of the lowest carbon emissions for any simple cycle natural gas fueled electricity production.
  • Future proof by carbon sequestration directly into underlying saline aquifer if needed over time.
  • Equipment upgradable to run on zero carbon fuel in the future (hydrogen).

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

A Good Neighbor. Regulatory & Price Certainty. Community Support

  • Use of water from trapped mine pool takes zero water from the community.
  • West Virginia House Bill 2014 signed in 2025, The Power Generation and Consumption Act, has created a certified micro grid program enabling clarity and speed to market.

SCALABLE DESIGN

Scalable & Flexible Design

  • Dual-fueled engines seamlessly transition to backup fuels.
  • Upgradable to run on zero carbon fuel unlike other generation equipment. Engines can run on hydrogen based fuels as they become available.
  • Modular data center pods allow phased build-out while possessing both cost efficiency and 6-Sigma reliability for the campus.

NET ZERO POTENTIAL

Net Zero Power Potential

  • Environmental Gas (Coal Mine Methane) blended in feedstock can lead to insetting of carbon and zero (or negative) carbon footprint.
  • Adams Fork is uniquely located amongst 80% of the US CMM and near one of 3 capture systems for active mines.
  • Methane from coal mines venting into atmosphere has around 28x more harmful emissions profile compared to CO2 from methane combustion.
  • Capturing, remediating and using CMM is broadly recognized as insetting — recognition from U.S EPA, California Air Resource Board and U.S. DOE Argonne National Lab.
  • Capture to power score of -7,656 lbCO2/MWh.

LOW-COST POWER

Low-Cost, Onsite Power

  • Sits adjacent to abundant, low-cost natural gas reserves.
  • Designed for island mode operation, eliminates dependence on grid volatility and demand and transmission charges.
  • Price-competitive with (or below) typical PPA/electricity market rates.
  • Expected cost of energy, excluding capex, below $.03 per kWh for 20 years.
